Setting Up a Home Office

When setting up a home office, consider the following:

  • A multi-function machine that prints, faxes, scans, and copies.
  • Internet postage in lieu of a postage meter.
  • Replacing your computer every three years with the fastest one you can find.
  • Renting a conference room in a nearby executive suite on an hourly basis.
  • Using the phone answering service of an executive suite.
  • Renting a box at a mailbox store. Be sure it accepts packages that can’t be handled by a box.
  • Self discipline through regular hours.
  • Setting up rules for your family so you aren’t disturbed.
  • Compliance with zoning restrictions. Some communities prohibit employees or clients at your home.
