Networking for Small Firms
Source: Practical Accountant
Firms with up to nine CPAs can participate in the equivalent of firm retreats sponsored by the AICPA Private Companies Practice Section. There are networking groups for small, medium and large firms. The groups meet one-and-a-half days two times a year. Because groups are from various locations, the members feel free to discuss problems.
Examples of what is discussed:
- State tax issues.
- Taking credit card payments from clients.
- Allowing staff members to fire clients.
- 401(k) programs.
- Benefits for staff, such as vacation time, etc.
- Paperless offices—number of monitors, where scanning takes place, which software programs are used.
- Telemarketing and how it has not worked in many firms.
- Practice continuation agreements.
- When to hire an assistant.
- Licensing mobility.
- Successful ideas.
- Compensation.
- Marketing.
- Billing.
