From the Horse’s Mouth—How Small Firms Can Recruit on Campus
Source: Pennsylvania CPA Journal
Joseph M. Larkin, associate professor of accounting at Saint Joseph’s University, advises CPA firms on recruiting. Here are a few highlights:
- Get to know faculty members at local colleges.
- Motivate recent graduates to keep in touch with students at their alma maters.
- Speak at meetings of Beta Alpha Psi and other on-campus accounting groups.
- Get management involved. Students want to speak not only with staff, but also with top management of the firm.
- If you don’t have the ability to use interns, try offering externships—these can be for just a few days, and the variety of functions externs can perform is dependent on how resourceful you are.
- Publicize specific career path opportunities at your firm.
