Following are some ideas we discovered in the blog of Mark Bailey.

Mark Bailey & Co., Ltd., includes the following in its agreements: “Our work is guaranteed to the satisfaction of the customer. If you are not completely satisfied with the services performed by Mark Bailey & Co. , Ltd., we will, at the option of the Company, refund the price or accept a portion of said price that reflects the Company’s level of satisfaction.”

Should there be any fear about making such a commitment? Here are some thoughts:

  • If you don’t have confidence in your work, you shouldn’t be in the business.
  • Mark Bailey & Co. has never had a client use the guaranty deceitfully to avoid payment.
  • Mark Bailey & Co. fees are determined at the front end of engagements, so clients are never surprised at the amount of the bill.

Bailey also points out that David Maister, in his blog posting of April 15, 2008, mentions a law firm that makes a value commitment. That firm says on its Website: “If you don’t think we’re worth the amount you agreed to pay, you make whatever adjustment you think is necessary.” (See David Maister blog, Post # 529, April 15, 2008, Satisfaction Guaranteed, found under Popular Posts in the right-hand column).
