The Economy—Effects on Business and Employment at CPA Firms
Source: CPA Trendlines
In a current survey by CPA Trendlines accountants are asked about the economy’s effect on business, hiring, and jobs. Here are two of the questions:
- Over the next six to 12 months, how will the number of professionals employed at your company or organization change?
- In your own words, how do you REALLY feel about business and employment conditions today?
Here are some of the comments on these and other questions:
- Our office is still very busy so we have not seen a downturn
- No slowdown other than I can see slightly lower raises.
- Hard to collect money and clients are having difficult times.
- Have so many recruiters contacting me with opportunities I feel there must be a shortage of talent at my level.
- Every firm seems to be understaffed and good staff is in high demand.
- Things may be slowing, but small businesses need CPAs more than ever for help in weathering the storm.
- Employment outlook for public CPAs must be at an all-time high. Economy is slowing, but finance/accounting jobs seem to be in relatively high demand.
- Given the impending baby boomer retirements coupled with growth in business complexity, I think there will be an increased demand for accountants, particularly those with at least one of the certifications CPA, CMA, CIA and so on.
- Public accounting industry is understaffed.
