Following are excerpts from the October 2, 2008, blog entry, “Recruiting Season is in Full Swing,” which are reprinted with permission.

The September 15th issue of Business Week features 50 companies that are The Best Places to Launch a Career. Out of the Top 5, four are accounting firms. A lot of the information to determine the ranking comes from the employers themselves, so I am a little less impressed. But, it has several articles that are a must read for CPA firm leaders.

I have been strongly urging my clients and seminar attendees to pursue the accounting majors at a much younger age than in the past. Hire sophomores as interns and keep them coming back. Click here for one of the articles that tells how one of the Big Four uses a pre-internship development program to identify “high potentials” to attend a three-day seminar at Miami University of Ohio, where they can mingle with the firm’s top brass. The story features a sophomore.

How long does it take to become a Senior, Supervisor or Manager at your firm?
