Four Leadership Ideas from a Prominent CPA

In this blog entry Rick Telberg says: “In these treacherous and tumultuous times, the difference between winners and losers—survivors and casualties—may well hinge on the qualities of leadership.”
Telberg asked Bob Bunting (former chairman of Moss Adams, and chair, 2004-5, of the AICPA, and soon to be president of the International Federation of Accountants) to talk about leadership. He provided these four ideas:
- The major role of leaders is to create leadership—that means everyone in the firm has more leverage.
- The only way to find the leaders you need in the firm is to make flextime a reality. This is especially true for women leaders.
- If an older partner has big compensation based on ownership and is slowing down and not being accountable, younger partners will not be accountable either.
- Leaders are developed, not born. If a firm has a strong cultural devotion to succession, leaders will develop.
