Use IT to Help Solve the People Shortage

Gary Boomer’s article in Accounting Today, lists technology initiatives that displace traditional methods. They include:

· E-filing of tax returns.

· Electronic invoicing

· Internet research (v. manual research).

· Automated financial statements that avoid repetitive entries.

· Auditing through the computer system.

Technology can make people more productive. For a firm to become more profitable in this way, it should:

· Reduce its data bases through integration.

· Concentrate on training in IT.

· Implement high speed, secure, remote access.

· Use portals for clients.
