Six Ways to Motivate Your Workforce

Six Ways to Motivate Your Workforce

Source: Inspired Ideas

Tamera Loerzel describes six professional motivators firms should consider in today's changing times. Here are some excerpts from her list:

  1. Acknowledgment and respect. The least costly motivator in terms of time and money, but often the one we forget during turbulent times of uncertainty, when it's most critical.
  2. Camaraderie and fun. People like to work with other people they enjoy being around, so even in these economically uncertain times, make time to have fun together.
  3. Compensation. This traditionally is the one area where most firms focus their motivational energies, but it isn't always the most important one.
  4. Flexibility and time off. You appeal to this value with the options you provide your people to schedule their own time, choose their work hours and days, work from home, take time off for personal activities and earn time off.
  5. Increased responsibility and challenge. This is the process of providing your people with expanded duties and responsibilities, where their work is increasingly complex and the importance of their work to the firm and your clients grows, too.
  6. Personal and professional development. Don't pull back on leadership development investments. You will need to accelerate the speed at which your leaders grow and mature in your firm to fill the gaps in your succession plans.
