Willing to Take a Risk for Your Clients?

The following includes excerpts from a blog entry by Dan Morris, reproduced with permission.
In this post, Dan Morris tells about a restaurant he visited that offers double or nothing to guests willing to order a “chef's surprise” menu item. Dan and his friend ordered the surprise menu items. Each received something different, ate it and then chose to go double or nothing. Between the two of them, they came out even. In the end, it wasn't the food, but rather the experience, that made a lasting impression.
The lesson for other businesses is that maybe this is possible for your products and services. Would you be willing to serve your own version of a product (remember, I didn't get to choose my meal, it could have been something distasteful) and then offer your customer the chance to escape payment if they were willing to risk paying double?
Think about it — great fun and the courage to experiment just might be worth it and engaging your customer is never a mistake. You can afford the risk, and the overall numbers are on your side. Simply win more than you lose.
