Training helps firms better serve clients, retain staff, and attract new recruits. One reason for high turnover is that people don’t feel they are being developed. Here is what some firms are doing:

Argy Wiltse & Robinson, McLean VA—In addition to tax and audit, it offers training in general management.

Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, Atlanta—Clients are welcome at training sessions.

Larson/Allen, Minneapolis—This firm conducts focus groups in which new staff are asked  what they would like to learn. It also teaches people how to delegate. Ethics courses are also offered. It offers e-mail etiquette, presentation skills, art classes, Spanish, nutrition, weight-loss, and CPR.

Elliot Davis, Greenville, SC—offers education in dining and business etiquette, how to dress professionally, networking, leadership and management skills, and business advisory skills.

Porter Keadle Moore, Atlanta—This firm trains in time management and managing multiple tasks. It uses the services of a psychologist to give assertiveness training. It also teaches people how to delegate.
