Katrina, a Lesson in Disaster Preparedness

Katrina, a Lesson in Disaster Preparedness

Katrina was a warning that disasters of various kinds can strike almost anywhere. Every CPA firm should have backup plans. Grady Hazel, executive director of the Louisiana State Society, offers these three bits of advice:

  1. Your Internet service provider should be located in a different geographic area. The society’s Web site was down two different times because of the floods in New Orleans.
  2. Back-up files should be stored in a different area. Vaults in New Orleans may still be unavailable.
  3. Store your Federal tax I.D. number on your PDA or memorize it.
