Are Managing Partners the Principal Cause of the Staffing Problem?

Howard Wolosky, executive editor of Practical Accountant, says, “I think staffing remains a major problem for one primary reason: the managing partner.” He goes on to say this is not an indictment of all managing partners.

Few managing partners are mentors, as they don’t identify with the people they manage.

Wolosky talks about his attending The Rainmaker Academy session entitled “Market Pricing Strategies,” which impressed him. One of the participants told him it took a year to persuade the managing partner to allow him to attend. But one firm had three members in attendance. The cost of the two-year course is $10,000, and the managing partner may have been reluctant to spend that much money. But the average new business generated by those who complete the course is more than $250,000.

“I don’t think many managing partners really understand win/win,” says Wolosky.
