If your firm has a lot of clock-watchers, it’ll never reach its potential. To make your staff feel like owners:

  • Don’t keep secrets or reveal information on a “need-to-know basis” Only. Let staff know the firm’s vision and how they fit into it.
  • Ask staff for ideas, and make sure their ideas are really considered.
  • Let staff make decisions.
  • Provide stimulating work assignments. Ask staff what work would be challenging for them.
  • Allow flexible work schedules.
  • Realize that leaders working long hours doesn’t motivate staff. Instead, it is an insidious form of pressure on them.
  • Make work fun.
