Will personality tests help identify candidates who’ll be compatible with your culture and who may become leaders? Consider:
Pro:
- Such tests tend to be better than management at making predictions.
Cons:
- Tests may be unreliable.
- Tests may discriminate on sex or religion.
- Tests are often used incorrectly—as tests that must be passed.
- Tests may violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Tips:
- To avoid violating disabilities laws, don’t use any questions on addiction or psychological problems
- Don’t rely solely on the test. Use other measures, including skills tests and interviews.
- Provide test results to candidates and allow them to ask questions.
Popular tests:
- Meyers-Briggs
- California Personality Inventory
- Keirsey Temperament Sorter
