Partners are often evaluated by the amount of business they control. But they must do more than that to attract and retain the kind of people firms need. They must care about the staff, and they must be focused on the firm’s strategic plan. They must help staff to:

  • Know what is expected of them.
  • Get the tools they need to be effective.
  • Find opportunities to do what they do best, to learn, and to grow.
  • Be recognized for their contributions.
  • Get their opinions heard.
  • Feel they are important to the firm.

Good leadership will develop partners who help staff and develop the right culture. With poor leadership, a different culture may be created by each partner.
