This article is based on interviews with several firms to record their experiences with document management. Most of the firms had positive experiences. The article discusses:

• Benefits (One firm eliminated enough file cabinets to make room for 22 people.)
• Vendors (No favorites were mentioned, nor were any that were inadequate.)
• Successes and failures (One firm said “paperless” was a misnomer—later it switched to a different vendor with better success.)
• Costs (For one firm it was $500 per person)
• Whether to make the transition at once or over time (Firms’ experiences have varied on this.)
