How to Simplify
Performance Measurement
|
Source: Accounting Today L. Gary Boomer, Boomer Consulting, Manhattan, Kansas, believes the accounting profession is trending towards the measurement of output rather than of input. Consistent with this, is measuring success less in terms of charged hours and more on the basis of performance evaluations. The complaint about performance evaluation systems however, is that they require too much administrative time. One way to keep the system simple and effective is to make the person being evaluated responsible for the administration. A self-assessment program exercised every 90 days (along with a 90-day goal program) can be powerful. Management simply has to conduct a quarterly review (scheduled by the employee) and, among other things, make sure the self-assessment is correct, and the employee is pursuing goals consistent with his/her strengths and the firm's strategic plan.
