Why Women Aren’t Making Rain

Gale Crosley of Crosley + Co. (www.crosleycompany.com) says women just don’t think of themselves as rainmakers. They don’t have role models who have successfully combined a powerful career track with motherhood. The lack of flexible work arrangements is also problematic. A better model than targeting a certain number of working and chargeable hours would be to assign a group of clients with the goal of maintaining a high level of satisfaction and growth.

To become rainmakers, women also need to:

  • Develop networking skills.
  • Extend meeting invitations. Women are less comfortable at this than men.
  • Project self-confidence.

Suggested activities include:

  • Reading books on rainmaking.
  • Attending acting classes, which teach how to project confidence.
