Blogs and Status Updates: Simple Social Media Tools for CPAs

Source: Journal of Accountancy

In this article, Vikram Rajan encourages CPAs to use social media – specifically blog posts and status updates – as a way to keep yourself visible and relevant to business associates, clients and potential clients. Rajan has seven suggestions for how you can inform others through social media updates:

  1. Use your blog or status to provide helpful information that will lead others to ask questions. Avoid directly trying to sell your services via your blog or status.
  2. Keep your readers up-to-date on your business activities or related news items.
  3. When blogging, include specific, practical information that new clients will need. In status updates, mention the information available in your blog.
  4. Make your status or blog a place to publicly appreciate co-workers and associates whose efforts deserve mention.
  5. As you gain a new understanding of business, leadership or personal growth principles, share what you learn with your readers.
  6. Keep your posts brief, and incorporate other mediums such as videos, PowerPoint slides, or pictures.
  7. Make your blog or status updates a part of your business. Use email, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook to lead business connections to your most recent entries.
