The following includes excerpts, reproduced with permission, from a blog entry by Marc Rosenberg.
A never-ending discussion at CPA firms revolves around the question: What is a partner?
I am currently using a handout on this issue that includes 17 items. Except for number 1 below, which is the most important item, here are 10 of these items in no particular order.
- A driver
- A leader
- Manages client relationships well and grows their fees
- Develops and mentors staff
- Brings in business
- A team player
- Pushes work down to staff; is responsible for keeping staff busy
- Lives and breathes the firm's core values
- Protects the firm; keeps technical skills sharp; practices strong ethics
- A good corporate citizen
