Vol. 7 No. 9, October 2015

The Leadership Forum is a panel of the most prominent thought leaders in the profession. This month we asked two questions and asked them to respond to the questions dealing with CPA firm management and leadership.

This month's questions were:

  1. MAP surveys of CPA firms under $15M (95% or more of all firms) show that the higher the percentage of equity partners a firm has that are women, the lower the firm's income per partner is. Why is this?

  2. What really makes CPA firms profitable?

CPA firm profitability is an enigma for two reasons. First, there isn't a sound way to measure CPA firm profitability: the two best measures -- income per partner and to a lesser extent, partner income as a percent of revenues, are deeply flawed because both depend on how high the bar is for making someone a partner.
