Uncover Your Firm's Hidden Talent

Source: Flowtivity

In this blog post, Dustin Hostetler encourages firm leaders to seek out the untapped talent that exists within their companies. Hostetler's experience in meeting with team members at every level of an organization reveals that virtually every organization has talented, lower-level team members who have a lot to offer but whose input is not being solicited.

Why do leaders allow talent to go untapped? Hostetler offers several possible explanations:

  • A tendency to stick with our first impression of a new team member, after which it is difficult for them to “break out” of that mold or stereotype and let coworkers or leaders know their full capabilities.
  • Lack of effective mentoring.
  • A focus on partner feedback without seeking input from those who would offer a non-partner perspective.
  • A system that rewards longevity more than demonstrated talent.

Hostetler challenges leaders to find the untapped talent within their companies and utilize those employees more fully to the benefit of the entire team.
