Growing a Cannabis and Hemp Niche: Strategies for CPA Firms
June 17, 2021 @ 1-1:50pm ET
The market and need for accounting, tax, advisory and valuation services for the cannabis and hemp industries is growing exponentially across the country and around the globe. It is expected that the cannabis industry will generate over $20 billion in revenue by 2025. Currently 33 states and D.C. have legalized medical cannabis and 11 states have legalized adult recreational use. Hemp, and CDB derived from hemp, is Federally legal due to the passing of the Farm Bill. The fact that the Federal Government has not recognized marijuana as a legal drug has created more opportunities for accountants to advise on IRS Tax Code 280E, which disallows many typical business expenses.
