Burned Out & Underpaid – How to Get Off the Hamster Wheel
October 18, 2022 @ 1-1:50pm ET

Most CPA firms start by engaging with the best clients they can find. The problem is as the firm evolves these clients are often less than ideal from both the perspective of the working relationship and the fees earned for the work. Before they know it, the firm is too overwhelmed by client responsibilities, demanding deadlines, and resulting talent issues to implement the technology, systems and processes, pricing structure, etc. that would allow them to scale effectively without breaking the backs of those who do the work. As the firm adds staff, they pass these problems down the ranks in order to alleviate their own burnout and elevate their compensation. In order to avoid passing this death spiral hot potato to the newest and lowest ranking staff, firms must become intentional about who they will work with, which services they will provide, and how they will provide these services.
