What Do You Really Know About the Cloud?

In this article, Jody Padar urges CPAs to educate themselves about the cloud, and its options, before switching to cloud-based services. Padar, whose firm operates out of the cloud, gives the example of a CPA who encouraged a client to begin using cloud-based Quicken, rather than the online program. The client made the switch and then began having troubles with the cloud-based version but had not had problems with the online version. As a result, the client was upset with the CPA, who was upset with the vendor, who had pushed for the change in the first place.

Padar's bottom line: CPAs, educate yourselves! According to Padar, the cloud offers a lot of options that can benefit your clients, but understanding these options is critical to providing the best possible service to your clients. She also asks vendors to provide educational resources so that CPAs and other professionals can better understand and take advantage of all that the cloud has to offer.
