You Didn't Build Your Business . . . Not Alone, Anyway
Source: Accounting Today
According to Gene Marks, owner of a 10-person consulting firm, despite the furor over President Obama's recent remarks, business owners don't build their businesses by themselves. In this somewhat tongue-in-cheek article, Marks acknowledges some of the key people who helped him build his business, including:
- His father, who gave him his moral and financial start.
- His wife, who was supportive and understanding.
- His accountant, whose advice and tax counseling, often provided free of charge, were “incredibly valuable.”
- His early customers, who were patient when he made mistakes, and vendors, who “let [him] slide a few days if cash flow was tight.”
- Al Gore, “for the Internet.”
- A manager who mentored him when he worked at KPMG.
- His “all-time worst client,” who helped him recognize clients to avoid.
- High school and college teachers who taught him to learn from failure, to think ahead, and to be prepared.
